Bob Lanier

Bob Lanier, the most extraordinarily graceful man of great size who ever played in the NBA. And there will always be the great “Big If?”

Could St Bonaventure have won the 1970 NCAA title if he hadn’t been injured in the Regional Finals? It’s entirely possible.

He was the best basketball player ever to come out of Buffalo. But he was most proud of what he accomplished

after his NBA career as the league's ambassador to the youth of the country, talking about the importance of education.

“Most NBA people put Lanier on a par with Bill Walton and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the truly dominant big

men in professional basketball.” — TSN, April 1, 1978

Bob Lanier passed away on Tuesday evening at the age of 73.
