France votes as Macron faces far-right challenge from Le Pen for presidency
Voting is underway in the French presidential election, which is being
followed closely around the world for its potential to redefine
France's position in the Western world, the country's approach to
immigration, and Europe's relations with Russia.
The final voting average, taken Friday before the election blackout period, showed incumbent President
Emmanuel Macron leading by 10 percentage points. Far-right challenger Marine Le Pen's victory is unlikely, though still possible.
