Culture Minister Nadine Dorries has made controversial plans to privatize Channel 4,
with the government backing proposals to sell the broadcast after 40 years of public ownership.
Alex Mahon, CEO of Channel 4, told reporters in an e-mail on Monday night: "We were informed at the last minute that the
government would soon announce that the foreign minister had decided to abide by the proposal to privatize Channel 4.
Mahon said the current leadership of Channel 4 would not step down without a fight, suggesting that The
ultimately ownership of Channel 4 as the government proposes and parliament decides" and the lengthy process of
passing the law around the channel to privatize means it is not a deal.
On Monday night, Dorries tweeted that public ownership "prevents Channel 4 from competing with streaming giants such as Netflix and Amazon."
