A powerful tornado flattened dozens of structures in the city of

Andover on Friday night in the Wichita, Kansas, area, according to officials.

City Fire Chief Chad Russell touched down in Sedgewick County before traveling to Andover in

Butler County during a news conference. He said more than 950 buildings were hit by the storm.

The tornado was rated EF-3 based on a preliminary damage survey from the

National Weather Service in Wichita. More details are expected to emerge as the survey is

completed, but an EF-3 rating will mean winds from the twister will be between 136 and 165 mph.
